Our Third Wellbeing Wednesday

This Wellbeing Wednesday will help us all start singing in the rain, with Rachel Kelly, a bestselling writer and mental health campaigner, who previously suffered severe depression and has taken her experiences to develop strategies on how to stay calm and well. Her book, Singing in the Rain: 52 steps to happiness, is an inspirational workbook of life-affirming exercises and activities to guide readers towards a happier future. Rachel will share her knowledge and advice ahead of her main session at Rail Wellbeing Live in November.

Andy Baines-Vosper, a suicide prevention and mental health speaker, and business manager at Balfour Beatty, will also join us to talk about how his organisation is working to make mental health top of the agenda, as well as his other work as the founder of Beneath the Hardhat. Andy has extensive experience working as part of various rail industry Mental Wellbeing groups and in the Samaritans, as both a listening volunteer and outreach team member in rail, schools, sports and prisons.

And guiding us through proceedings for our fortnightly dose of wellness inspiration, we welcome new hosts Katie Frost, Managing Director at Network Rail, High Speed, and David Horne, Managing Director at LNER.

Mindfulness for wellbeing

In this session, you will learn how mindfulness - which is a way of focusing your attention on the present moment - can help your brain work better, manage stress, think clearer, and manage your mood. You'll find out how it can help you sleep better, feel healthier, and even deal with pain more effectively. Shamash guides you on how to start practising mindfulness - starting with just 10 seconds a day and slowly increasing over time.
